Being caught unprepared

Grandma is leaving on a jet plane and I know when she will be back again (2 months and leaving on the 2nd of February) . As my dearest mother in law is busy packing her bags and getting ready to leave the country, we have tried to sort out a battle plan in preparation for the big holiday. We thought we had loads of time to sort out all the nitty gritties.

“Yay” for her and not so “yay” for us as she is our full-time caregiver for our terrors. We have a plan in place for them while she is away. My husbands dad and his wife are going to stay with us from a Monday to a Thursday and then we have a nanny on Fridays half day, the hubby can alleviate later in the afternoon. I wont comment on how lucky he cos he puts in a lot of hard hours after work.

We have planned for months to get the spare bedroom ready, this weekend we were gonna tackle it for real as we were only expecting them on Sunday. We have looked at bunk beds and have bought the paint for the room which is now a study. Discussed where we going to pack the excess, but as luck will have it they came last night! I was in my pj’s putting old moans to sleep when the call came they are in town and looking for our house. All the months of talking and wanting to get it ready left us standing gob smacked in the drive way looking like the circus just drove in, while the car parked neatly in front of our over stocked garage.

Trying to prepare an area in a limited time, while you knew they were coming is tough. Poor grandma 2 had to sleep on the floor, even though she prefers it due to back problems, it was still horrible. They are not here this evening due to personal reasons. But in my crazy state I am thinking they are being polite to give us time to sort out their space so it doesn’t feel like sleeping in a warehouse.

Luke 21:36 (ESV)
36 But stay awake at all times, praying that you may have strength to escape all these things that are going to take place, and to stand before the Son of Man.

1 Thessalonians 5:6 (ESV)
6 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober.

There are many verses like this that try to prepare us for what is to come. Most of the time we do not take heed, we know the Lord is coming and we are busy drawing up plans and schematics, making sample boards, doing a lot of work but actually doing nothing, we are unprepared.

SO my plan of action now is to stop planning and actually put it in to practice. No harm in having a strategy but with no action is useless. There is a horrible song I heard on the radio where the catchy lyrics went, why do it today if you can do it tomorrow. Procrastinators anthem, if we all had to live our lives like that we will get caught with no chance to rectify that behavior. On that note I have some junk to clear before our guests come back 🙂
